Developing Future Leaders: Hexagon
Through a generous donation in support of HudsonAlpha’s Summer of STEM program, Hexagon is sparking a love of STEM in learners of all ages
Booming from the aerospace, defense, and technology industries, Huntsville, Alabama, is a treasure-trove of brilliant minds and innovators. At the heart of the community is a commitment to supporting today’s industry while raising up tomorrow’s STEM workforce.
Hexagon is a steadfast supporter of STEM education programs across Huntsville. The company prioritizes funding for organizations that serve youth, improve healthcare, and support the tech space. HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology is a natural fit with Hexagon’s corporate philanthropy goals and has been grateful for Hexagon’s long standing support.
“HudsonAlpha uses advanced technologies to find breakthroughs to ensure a healthier world,” said Jennifer Kaplan, Senior Vice President for Global Human Resources. “As a technology company that supports large industries around the world, we want to support organizations that are involved in using cutting-edge technology — while also supporting the Huntsville community.”
This year, Hexagon made a generous donation to become one of HudsonAlpha’s Summer of STEM sponsors, providing funding for the Institute’s summer educational offerings. HudsonAlpha’s summer programs range from student summer camps, internships for undergraduate and graduate students, and educator professional learning opportunities.
“HudsonAlpha helps children who have an interest in STEM by inspiring them to pursue careers in STEM,” said Kaplan. “We’re inspired by HudsonAlpha’s ability to engage students who may not have the same resources or opportunities as other children, and that comes through in all of the Institute’s educational offerings. It’s our responsibility as a STEM company to ensure everyone has an equal foundation from which to launch their careers.”
HudsonAlpha has hosted summer education programs for over 10 years, offering priceless opportunities for students and educators from across the state of Alabama and beyond. This year’s Summer of STEM will run from early June through the end of July, impacting over 10,000 students across Alabama and the Tennessee Valley.
HudsonAlpha’s summer programs would not be possible without philanthropic support from the community. This type of community support is at the heart of who Huntsville is, according to Kaplan.
“It’s in the community’s DNA to come together to give back and support our nonprofits’ important missions,” said Kaplan. “We have seen in Huntsville how technology and innovation can grow the community. We’re mighty because we work together to develop the next big breakthrough, which is what HudsonAlpha is doing, and we know how important it is to prepare our kids to be leaders who will make these decisions in the future.”
HudsonAlpha’s Summer of STEM sponsorships are a powerful way to demonstrate your commitment to our community’s future. As a nonprofit organization, HudsonAlpha relies on philanthropic support to help make STEM opportunities available.
