Partners in Purpose: Longview Financial Advisors’ Commitment to Driving Change Through Philanthropy
By prioritizing strategic and heartfelt giving, Longview Financial is funding life-changing scientific research and STEM education at HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology
Philanthropy is a part of Longview Financial Advisors‘ DNA. A financial advising firm dedicated to helping clients find purpose and fulfillment through their resources, Longview is also known for its emphasis on building philanthropy into a client’s financial plan to help individuals make a meaningful impact on their community.
Not only does Longview emphasize giving as much as savings and investments with its clients, the organization also prioritizes corporate giving from its own funds to support nonprofit organizations across the community.
For President Jessica Smith, the philosophy is simple: “Our core purpose is to help people live with fulfillment and give with purpose,” she said. “We’ve created a seven-step process for creating your own giving plan, and that involves becoming partners with organizations you’re giving to.”
A partnership mindset is part of what makes Longview’s relationship with HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology so impactful. A long-time donor, Longview has supported HudsonAlpha’s Tie the Ribbons fundraiser for breast and ovarian cancer research and HudsonAlpha’s Alumni Association, which provides ongoing educational experiences for participants in HudsonAlpha U, the Institute’s public outreach courses.
“What we love about HudsonAlpha is the research that is happening there. HudsonAlpha’s work furthers medicine and saves lives,” Smith said. “Everyone at Longview has been personally affected by the diseases being researched at HudsonAlpha. That makes it really meaningful for us.”
Smith was first introduced to HudsonAlpha through a Biotech 101 course, led by Dr. Neil Lamb, HudsonAlpha President.
“Growing up, I didn’t care much about science because I didn’t feel engaged in class,” she said. “Neil is a fantastic teacher. I was so enthralled in Biotech 101 that I came back for more. Neil helped grow my love of science.”
That experience led to Longview’s commitment to sponsoring the Alumni Association and its annual reception. “We believe STEM education is essential and that learning is a lifelong pursuit. The alumni program builds community around that idea.”
Longview has also been a dedicated supporter of Tie the Ribbons, HudsonAlpha’s signature annual fundraiser for breast and ovarian cancer research. “We’ve had a number of clients affected by breast cancer. Some of them have even attended the event with us,” said Smith. “It’s powerful when you bring people together who share a common goal. When people are in a room working to do something big, it leads to action and long-lasting impact.”
Ultimately, Longview’s approach to giving is rooted in transparency, trust, and shared purpose. “HudsonAlpha is a partner. You keep us informed, and we get to see the work up close with our clients and our team,” Smith said. “When you feel someone else’s passion, it gives you passion too. That’s why we give year after year. We want to be a small part of the impact HudsonAlpha is making.”
As a nonprofit organization, HudsonAlpha relies on philanthropic support to fuel genomics research and STEM education.
