Synovus Renews Support as Founding Sponsor for Tie The Ribbons Luncheon

Synovus has been a Tie The Ribbons Founding Sponsor since the very first Tie The Ribbons luncheon sixteen years ago

The HudsonAlpha Foundation’s Tie The Ribbons event is a beloved Huntsville tradition. Established sixteen years ago, it raises funds for HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology’s breast and ovarian cancer program.

Started in 2008, Tie The Ribbons has grown to fill sold-out halls in the Von Braun Center as the community comes together to discover updates on HudsonAlpha’s cancer research, hear stories of hope from cancer survivors and Information is Power participants, and enjoy bidding on exclusive vendor items up for silent auction during the luncheon.

Tie The Ribbons’s success would not be possible without the event’s many sponsors. Synovus was the first sponsor back when the first event launched and has remained a Founding Sponsor ever since. We are tremendously grateful for their continued support.

“I remember attending the first event at the Ledges with a couple hundred guests, and it’s so amazing to see how attendance has grown throughout the years to well over 1,000 attendees,” says Beth Sippel, Synovus Market President. “Even more exciting is the impact that Tie The Ribbons has had by educating our north Alabama region regarding breast and ovarian cancer.”

Funds raised from Tie The Ribbons directly fuel HudsonAlpha’s genomics research on breast and ovarian cancer, led by Dr. Sara Cooper, Faculty Investigator.  Dr. Cooper and her team are currently studying tumor biology and chemoresistant tumor interactions with the body’s immune system. This research could lead to better patient outcomes for cancer patients struggling with metastatic or chemoresistant cancers.

Today, Tie The Ribbons also supports Information is Power, a statewide genetic testing initiative that helps participants learn their risk for developing certain cancers. The test is a simple cheek swab that examines whether participants have gene variations that are known to be linked to an increased risk of developing breast, ovarian, colon, and other cancers.

“We’re honored to partner with the HudsonAlpha Institute of Biotechnology to improve the lives of those impacted by breast and ovarian cancer,” says Sippel. “Our team has enjoyed inviting our clients to Tie the Ribbons over the years and introducing them to the Institute. We’ve been gratified to see how many of our clients have decided to support the organization after attending the event.”

This year, Tie The Ribbons will take place on Thursday, November 7, at 11:30 a.m. in the Von Braun Center Saturn Ballroom. Guest speaker Dr. Rebecca Arend, Associate Professor of Gynecology Oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, will share an update on her research on metastatic and chemoresistant cancers and the hope she has for the future of cancer care.
