HudsonAlpha depends on philanthropy to fuel these essential educational programs.
Help educate future leaders of the STEM workforce by supporting HudsonAlpha’s Educational Outreach programs through a philanthropic gift.
Hosted on HudsonAlpha’s campus in our state-of-the-art teaching labs, our student experiences such as field trips and summer camps provide enriching opportunities for middle and high school students to come to interact with STEM hands-on. Because of philanthropic support, HudsonAlpha welcomed over 2,300 students in the 2022-2023 academic year.
“HudsonAlpha’s career day was an eye-opening experience. It eased my anxiety about my future and made my dreams seem more possible.” — Lexi, 12th grade student from Lee High School
Aimed at training students interested in a STEM career, our workforce development programs establish a strong pipeline that meets STEM workforce needs in Alabama and nationwide. Programs such as the BioTrain summer internships, HudsonAlpha HBCU Co-Op internships, BRIDGES, and more bring undergraduate and graduate students into our labs, classrooms, and office spaces to gain valuable hands-on experience.
“Being part of HudsonAlpha’s HBCU Co-Op helped me understand that I have what it takes to be in biotechnology. Working at a place like HudsonAlpha isn’t a far-fetched dream anymore — it’s a goal.” — Joycelyn Williams, former HudsonAlpha HBCU Co-Op intern, current participant in the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Research Training Program
Reaching over 95% of high schools in Alabama, HudsonAlpha’s classroom resources help middle and high school teachers level up classroom learning on genetics and genomics. HudsonAlpha offers teacher training and professional development opportunities through a combination of classroom-based training and immersive camps held on our biotech campus, providing educators with the skills to boost students’ STEM confidence and identity.
“My opportunity to meet so many different people who work with HudsonAlpha’s scientists and to go into the labs inspired me to push my students to the next level. We have adopted the mindset that a small school doesn’t mean small science.” — Peggy Harris, biology teacher at Locust Fork High School in Locust Fork, AL
HudsonAlpha aims to inspire curiosity and fuel learning about STEM at all ages. Our HudsonAlpha U program, sponsored by the Ashburn Foundation, is a series of free public seminars led by Kelly East, Vice President of Educational Outreach, enabling lifelong learners to discover the significance behind genomic discoveries, understand how genomics improves our daily health and well-being, and more. In 2023, over 800 members of our community registered for HudsonAlpha U events.
