iHeartMedia presents check to HudsonAlpha Foundation

Proceeds from Girls and Guitars concert to benefit Information is Power initiative

Playing to a sold out audience, iHeartMedia’s 102.1 WDRM hosted its second Girls and Guitars concert presented by Crestwood Medical Center for breast cancer awareness this past October.

Three of the hottest new acts in country music performed. Cam, Maddie and Tae, and Rachel Wammack performed for the sold out crowd in October at the Von Braun Center Playhouse.

“The mission of the event is two fold,” said Carmelita Palmer, market president of iHeartMedia in Huntsville. “First, we want to give back to the community and, second, we want to give country music fans in the Tennessee Valley an opportunity to see incredible talent at a low ticket price.”

iHeartMedia is a sponsor and supporter of the HudsonAlpha Foundation’s annual Tie the Ribbons event benefiting breast and ovarian cancer research at HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology. In addition to supporting Tie the Ribbons, iHeart Media presented HudsonAlpha with a check for $2,500 from the iHeartMedia Girls and Guitars concert to support the Information is Power initiative.

Information is Power, a collaboration between HudsonAlpha and Kailos Genetics, offers free and reduced cost genetic cancer risk testing for men and women in North Alabama. Redstone Federal Credit Union generously sponsored the initiative in 2018. To learn more about Information is Power or to order a test, visit hudsonalpha.org/information-is-power.

“We also want to thank Crestwood Medical Medical Center, our partner in this event,” said Palmer. “They make it possible and we couldn’t do it without them.”
