DRIVING POSITIVE CHANGE THROUGH THE POWER OF GENOMICS

FUELING DISCOVERY, INNOVATION, AND PROGRESS

Donor support of the Innovation Fund helped us purchase two new PacBio Revio DNA sequencers, expand our student training program, launch the HudsonAlpha Bio-Cybersecurity Lab, and start a hiring search for a new faculty member specialized in diseases of the brain

15TH ANNIVERSARY EVENT SERIES

HudsonAlpha hosted over 3,500 members of our community for events and public talks as part of a year-long celebration of the Institute’s 15th anniversary

MAKING STEM ACCESSIBLE TO STUDENTS

The STEM Saturdays and Genetic Explorers programs partner with nonprofits across North Alabama to make STEM experiences possible for underrepresented students

A NEW TEACHING GARDEN

The newly dedicated Terry & Herb Lewis Demonstration Garden, a teaching garden by the Kathy L. Chan Greenhouse, teaches the public about the plants used in our research programs

CELEBRATING FIFTEEN YEARS OF HUDSONALPHA

The 2023 Spring Benefit celebrated the Institute’s 15th anniversary and raised over $200,000 for the Innovation Fund

STUDENT EXPERIENCES

We welcomed over 2,300 students for 100 student experiences over the last year, ranging from school field trips to summer camps

SUPPORT FOR BREAST AND OVARIAN CANCER RESEARCH

Over $200,000 was raised from the 15th Tie The Ribbons luncheon for our breast and ovarian cancer program, as well as the Information is Power Initiative

PUBLIC EDUCATION

Over 800 people registered for HudsonAlpha U, our newest free public education series about how genomics and DNA impact our daily lives, our health, and the world around us

DOUBLE HELIX DASH

Over 500 runners helped raise more than $43,000 for our scientists’ research on childhood genetic disorders and for the Smith Family Clinic for Genomic Medicine

MEMORY & MOBILITY PROGRAM

Gifts made to the Memory & Mobility Program help fund our scientists’ work to find solutions that give us earlier diagnostics and better treatment options for diseases like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS, and dementia
